Gentle Keep Fit classes offer moderately paced exercise to improve your general health, fitness, mobility, strength, and balance. My motto is keep it simple, work at your own pace, be safe, have fun, enjoy yourself, and come away feeling great!
Popular music from the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's will have your feet tapping and you singing along! It will put a smile on your face and a spring in your step. These classes are light-hearted, fun, and social.
Chairs are available for support and balance, and most exercises can be done seated if preferred. The class is a mix of standing and seated exercises. Some exercises are standing easy, low-impact aerobics, and some are seated strengthening exercises using resistance bands.
Fun, friendly & extremely effective!
The standing element of the class will help improve your cardiovascular health and fitness and increase your energy levels and general stamina. You are encouraged to work at a level which feels good to you, to rest whenever you need to or continue exercising seated.
The resistance exercises are clinically-proven exercises taken from a Falls Prevention Programme which I delivered for many years. They are extremely effective for strengthening muscles, joints and bones. Strengthening muscles helps to maintain function and independence by making everyday tasks easier to accomplish. Strengthening bones reduces the risk of fractures in the event of a fall. Light to moderate strength training becomes more important as we get older and significant improvements can be made at any age. The key areas of that we focus on in class will help reduce pain in hips, knees, back, wrists and ankles - areas where we commonly experience wear and tear and weakness.
Throughout the class there is plenty of encouragement to improve posture and the opportunity to challenge your balance in way which is safe and feels appropriate to you.
If this all sounds a bit serious, have no fear, there is plenty to keep you smiling throughout!
